Pastoral Care Ministry
.
What is Pastoral Care Ministry?
We give freely of ourselves, to help others in time of need. St John's Pastoral Care Team works in conjunction with clergy to provide pastoral visits, care and communion to parishioners in hospitals, nursing facilities and at home. They provide transportation, meals and greeting cards, and coordinate an ongoing prayer ministry. Pastoral Care Ministry is an important part of our Christian life.

All information shared during Eucharistic and Pastoral visitation is kept in confidence.

Eucharistic Visitation:
Eucharistic Visitors assist the clergy in bringing communion to those unable to attend church due to illness or other circumstances. The Eucharistic table is extended to the home, or other places following regularly scheduled services.

Greeting Cards:
Get well, birthday, or thinking of you cards are sent to parishioners. Donations of stamps or blank note cards are always welcome.

Healing Prayer:
Prayer for healing is offered during regularly scheduled services, by specially trained team members. Family members or friends are welcome to join in the circle of prayer if it is desired.

Meals for Transition Times or Manna from Heaven:
Meals are provided for persons unable to prepare meals due to illness, or hospitalization. Meals are also provided when there is a new birth or death in the family, "Manna from Heaven” is there to help. The coordinator makes arrangements for cooks to provide and deliver easy-to-eat / easy-to-keep meals.

Pastoral Visitations:
Team members visit parishioners in hospitals, nursing retirement centers, and homes. This is done on behalf of the entire parish as a token of our mutual care.

Prayer Chain:
The Prayer chain offers daily prayer for individuals on request. Both e-mail and telephone are used to communicate requests for prayer to the praying community and are included in the Prayers of the People each Sunday. Send requests to requestprayer@SaintJohnOnline.org or contact the office.

Receptions:
Members of the Women's council and others, provide receptions at times of celebrations around life passages. They assist families and individuals with arrangements for food, room set up, decoration and clean up. New volunteers are always welcome.

Stephen Ministry:
Stephen ministers participate in an intensive period of training and formation. They are caring listeners as with all of our Pastoral Ministry. Confidentiality is at the heart of Stephen Ministry. In Stephen ministry only the care-giver, care-receiver and clergy know of the assignment and the identity of the recipient.

Transportation:
On request transportation to appointments, grocery shopping, to errands, and church activities can be arranged. There are two ways to help out with this ministry: as a volunteer driver or to write a check to St John's with Transportation Ministry in the memo line. This helps cover the cost of cab fares, or other ground transportation.
